The Hongsheng fireworks factory in Shangrao, in the Jiangxi province, suffered a massive explosion at about 12:30 a.m. (local time), police said. 53 people were taken to hospital, and by Wednesday afternoon, rescue teams continued to search the site for survivors, said CCTV. With Chinese New Year just weeks away, it's perhaps no surprise to see a sudden rise in accidents at fireworks factories. Revellers often mark the country's biggest holiday with displays, and factories are stepping up output ahead of the expected rise in demand. Have something to add to this story?
